Dental fear is a normal emotional reaction to one or more specific threatening stimuli in the dental environment. It can include the surroundings, the procedures or specific instruments, such as needles. Treatment may never cure the condition but can alleviate the response enough to allow treatment to take place.
Our initial approach would always be a sympathetic approach to understand and sympathise with each person’s individual concerns. After that techniques such as:
- Hypnosis – induction of a state of consciousness in which it is possible to modify behaviours.
- Acupuncture – fine needles inserted in to specific points on the skin to treat various physical and mental conditions.
Every patient is assessed and the treatment modified to that person’s needs.
